Yesterday was the first class of Yoga For Parents & Kids. The Playgroup Coordinator from Campbelltown Child and Family Centre, Peta Keating was in training today so I supported the group and had a lovely time doing so.
Dianne the yoga teacher was wonderful, very engaging with staff, children and parents. The children enjoyed the Yoga class, full of fun and games that Dianne offered. The children participated in the class with Dianne and staff, interacting with each other, smiling, laughing and playing delightfully with their peers.
This type of class was very different from other programs the service has had in the past. It was very interactive both physically and mentally for the children, with relaxation time and story time being well accepted by all the children.
It was great to see parents excitedly taking photos of their child at play, as they observed them having fun with peers, staff and Dianne.
As a Welfare Worker and Child Educator it is important that children are offered programs that help them regulate their bodies and activities that are age and stage appropriate. The resources Dianne offered were very appropriate for the children aged 3 to 5 years. Dianne was friendly, outgoing and passive at relaxation times and very interactive with the group of 10.
I would like to acknowledge this program which is a credit to you and your staff at Work Ventures and would be very welcomed by other communities within the Campbelltown area. Dianne’s skills and abilities are great and she is very humble. The majority of families and children living in the Airds area that attended the program are from a low socio-economic background and without this Work Ventures program being free, these families would not be able to participate in yoga due to affordability issues. Thank you Work Ventures!
The children were asked what they thought of the Yoga today – some of their answers are listed below:
Resting and looking at the ducky
Doing the flower thingy
Liked being a beetle
Liked the beach
Pretending to be a dog
Liked the scarves
Picking up pop poms with my toes
We are looking forward to next week, thank you and have a lovely day.
